Manual Sending

Choosing a format and exporting

Pick the right file format for your machine, set a name and origin, and save.

Press Export at the top right. It is greyed out until the design has stitches.

Choose the format#

Under File format, press the one your machine reads. If you do not know:

  • Brother or Baby Lock: PES.
  • Janome: JEF.
  • Pfaff or Husqvarna Viking: VP3.
  • Singer: XXX.
  • Commercial multi-needle machines: DST.
  • Melco: EXP. Barudan: U01. Tajima with colours: TBF.
  • Older Husqvarna Viking: HUS. Pfaff and Viking with exact colours: VIP.
  • CNC, plotter and DIY tools: G-code, a stitch path that Lilo writes but cannot read back.

There is also a PNG picture of the design. Use it for emails and mock-ups.

Read File formats for the full list. Formats such as DST, EXP and U01 do not keep thread colours.

The details#

The window shows Export stats: stitches, colour changes, size and time. Check them.

  • File name: set the name. Lilo adds the right ending.
  • Origin point: where the design's zero sits in the hoop. The centre is right for most machines. Some commercial machines start from a corner.

Before you sew#

The Before you sew list sits in the same window. It lists the needle, stabiliser and hooping tips for your fabric. Read it, then press Save.

Warnings#

Warnings list anything that may sew badly, like stitches longer than 12 mm that Lilo had to split. Read What the warnings mean.

Press Save#

Press Save. Your computer asks where to put the file. Choose a USB stick for a machine without Wi-Fi. Read USB stick.

Saving ticks the Send step in the workflow strip.
