Manual Lettering

Using your own fonts

Upload a TTF, OTF or TTC font and turn it into satin lettering.

You can add a font from your computer. This is how you stitch the exact typeface from a brand's logo.

Upload#

In the Text panel, scroll to Your fonts and press Upload font (TTF, OTF, TTC).... Choose the file. Lilo adds it to the list. Press it to use it.

Press Remove next to a font to take it out.

How it sews#

An ordinary font has outlines, not stitches. Lilo converts each letter into satin columns that follow the shape of the strokes.

  • Thick strokes become columns.
  • Strokes that are too thin for a clean column are widened up to a minimum width.
  • Standard quality sews columns no narrower than 1.5 mm. Premium allows 1.0 mm.

Choose a font that suits stitching#

  • Good: sturdy sans-serif fonts and slab serifs, with strokes of even weight.
  • Tricky: fonts with hairline strokes and heavy strokes together, like a high-contrast serif. The hairlines drop out.
  • Avoid: very thin script fonts and fonts with tiny details.

The small warning#

If your font is too small to sew cleanly, a note says "Custom fonts sew best above N mm". Make the text taller or pick a built-in font.

Licence#

You are responsible for the licence of any font you upload. Lilo keeps the font on your computer.
